Progress and frustration

I managed to spend a bit of time on the Lancia last night, planning to replace the brake balance valve and the flexible hose from the body to the rear axle. I'd soaked the connections for the hose in penetrating fluid a few times recently to help with removal but hadn't considered replacing the valve so hadn't done that. Having read about the valve I felt that it was worth getting refurbished but found that it was really cheap to buy and readily available from Ricambio - www.ricambio.co.uk - so bought a new one (they also supplied a new cap for the brake master cylinder so I can replace the bit of inner tube and jubilee clip seen in the last blog post!). First job was to put penetrating fluid on the connections for the valve to give it some time to soak whilst I did the flexible hose. Update - finally!

It's been a while... After a very busy year following a house move I thought I should write an update and noticed it is almost exactly a year since the last one. Not a lot was done on the car for a while following the move as one of the things that was needed was a garage to put it in. After having a base made Easter weekend saw the construction of this timber garage: Garage built from a kit purchased from Tuin It then got a recycled plastic tiled floor and the car was able to go in: Recycled plastic tiles from Mototile With everything else going on, and a lack of electricity in the garage, not a lot happened to the car for a while. I finally got round to removing the radiator to get it re-cored but in the process realised that the wiring was not connected to many of the components - radiator fan, thermo-switch, sidelight and a couple of other things. Brake bleeding and door locks

Good productive day on the car today. First off, I have bled the brakes. Having read that they can be difficult to bleed when completely empty (as mine are having removed everything from the system apart from some of the metal lines) so I bought a vacuum bleeder which operates using an airline from a compressor. It seems to have worked very efficiently and sucked fluid through to all the corners. There are two lines to each front caliper and a separate bleed nipple for each so six bleed points in total. The pedal still feels a little spongy but I've no experience of a Fulvia to know if this is normal or not. * Having sorted the brakes as far as possible for the moment I then investigated why the drivers door lock was very difficult to operate with the key. Not easy to see inside the door but the handle wasn't as tightly fitted as it should have been, but also the parts which move in the key lock were not connecting properly with the latch mechanism.
