Finally
managed to get an hour or so working on the Lancia tonight, aiming to get a
rear hub stripped to check the brakes.
It started well with the offside rear caliper coming off really
easily, the bolts weren't seized and the hydraulic pipe came out easily, great
news!
I then decided to try to remove the hub and that was where the
problem started, I have bought the hub nut tool but simply couldn't get enough
leverage on it to make a difference so I'll be asking on the Lancia forums to
see if there is a technique which works.
Having failed on that I thought I may as well look at the caliper
I had removed. The good news is that the seals look really good and the
calipers move easily.
So then I thought I would check if the bleed
nipple would move, and that is where I stopped - it wouldn't budge and the 8mm
ring spanner just slipped, unfortunately the surface drive socket wasn't long
enough to go over the nipple so I gave up.
My plan has always been to get the calipers rebuilt
professionally, despite lots of it looking positive I will stick with that as
having good brakes is pretty important!
