Whilst the car was being moved around (on the end of a rope) for the building of the new garage the only braking mechanism available was the handbrake. Unfortunately the drive at the new house is very steep so I was pulling vigorously on it and the cable snapped.
That was frustrating because replacing it meant taking the rear hubs off again. Having taken time away from the garage to replace the bathroom in the house I've gone back to the car and it now has a new cable and working handbrake again. New nuts fitted to hubs because they have a flange that needs to be peened over to lock them in place and the old ones had been used a few times so didn't want to risk them again.
The disks have developed light surface rust but there is nothing that won't wear off the first time the brakes are used so I'm not too worried about it.
