After the last post I got metal bent to shape to make a tool to hold the leaf spring in tension and enable me to remove the hub unit. It is a simple tool but very effective:
Having removed the driveshaft - which requires 6 allen headed bolts to be removed which hold the inner CV joint to the drive flange - I took the inner joint off the shaft, replaced the boots and put it back together:

The lower ball joint wasn't quite as simple as I hoped, it is possibly over-engineered as the Fulvia was designed by Lancia before the Fiat take over. Essentially it is held in with 3 bolts but is also a push fit - about 3cm diameter and with a spline nearly 2cm deep - basically I couldn't get it out and broke two screwdriver tips trying to get them into a small gap (yes, I know that isn't what they are designed for!!). I took the wishbone and new ball joint to my local garage to get them to press it out and fit the new one which they managed, so I'll take the other side very soon.
I was then able to reassemble the driveshaft and hub:
Next step was replacing the disc on the driving flange and fitting that:
Just need to replace the brake hoses and refit the caliper which I've had rebuilt.
